OH NO!!! Zythr don't be breaking out the champaign just now. That will be a cold day in hell or Cleveland. I do like Honda's of the past but NOT NOW. If Honda is surprising people in the future it probably won't be for the good lol.
+1000000 Very well said. Hence why they call Toyota's and Honda's appliances not accessories like Apple products. Most don't desire a car and usually they don't see those two companies with desirable as in emotionally attached cars but as cars for A to B. Zythr cars.
There made it more accurate...right Zythr
Honda will surprise with more power and fuel efficiency.
Owners who don't keep their cars long tend to look at them as appliances Auto companies depend on this to stay in business. Honda and Toyota have figured this out and have adjusted their models accordingly.
Honda fanbois are hardly any different than Toyota, BMW, etc

Let me guess, with some back handed "The Camry isn't here because we think it's a super boring and has super terrible handling".
No matter, if C&D had tested it, they no doubt would've put those fully loaded models up against a Camry L.

Have to give them some credit for the latest issue though -atleast they didn't put some super exotic sport cars on the cover that nobody can afford
LOL, I have to agree with that and the paper mags aren't the only ones that do it. LLN is constantly putting up some article about some super exotic sports car. I'm always thinking, "Who cares. It's a car that 99% of people will never even see on the road and 99.9% of people can't even afford. I would rather see 100 articles about Camry's and Malibu's than any article about some Porsche that they are only going to make 50 of." This was sort of the same reason that I quit buying Mustang magazines. I purchased two Mustangs between 2006 and 2010 and they were both just fun as could be. I really loved driving them. But if you ever pick up a Mustang magazine what you will find is that they are of almost no help to the average Mustang owner. Instead it is one article after another of some guy who has taken his stock Mustang and dumped about 80 grand into the car to make it some wild custom car that really isn't even a Mustang anymore except by virtue of the badges on it. I remember thumbing through them and thinking, "You know, it's a beautiful car and the guy did a great job but how does a Mustang with an aftermarket engine, aftermarket transmission, custom suspension, custom tuned supercharger, and custom interior really help the average Mustang owner with his stock Mustang?" Answer, it doesn't. These were cars that for the money the owner spent he could have bought three or four brand new GT's. So again, it was a situation where the Magazine was basically saying, "Look at this eye candy! Isn't this awesome?" Yes its very cool, how does that help me with my daily driver Mustang? . . . . . . crickets.

I get it. So cheap plastic that looks cheap isn't good, and when they come out with cheap plastic that looks good but isn't real well that's not either. But if we add the "real thing" it still doesn't look good (since it doesn't belong on a not 100K car).
So WTF is a manufacturer supposed to do? Sell a Camry SE with a 268HP V6, Navigation, 10 air bags, ABS, EBD, TRAC, Bluetooth, 4 wheel disc brakes, gets 30MPG, good ride, low noise, and handles decent, runs a 14.2 1/4 mile, all for 23K or so but now on top it has to have a full premium leather dash because the perfectly good looking plastic isn't good enough and the cheap hard plastic isn't either?
Am I in the twilight zone or something?

The exquisite details into which Toyota went to in order to hide the cheapness of those low-grade plastics through putting stitches through them is simply baffling.
I miss the Toyota of the days of yore when Toyota used to be the benchmark for best quality.
Just for reference then exactly what should the dash on a Camry be made of? Who has a better dash than the Camry? What should the Camry cost?
The same material Toyota used to put like 10 years ago would go a long way.
1 - Use adequate grade and durable plastics that most of the leading brands (including Toyota in the past have) are using these days instead of that rip-off quality low-grade coarse grainy plastics with a tuppuwear like feel. For a car that costs that much, there is no excuse whatsoever.
A loaded V6 XLE Camry, which has that abysmal stitched hard plastics costs north of $34,000 + taxes, which is not exactly cheap in today's market for such horrendous quality materials.
2 - Have you checked out the new Accord interior, for instance??? I have at a dealership and I could tell you it is just in a different league. You would be hard pressed to find anything that does not feel upscale and top-tier to the touch. It feels like a much more expensive car.

I haven't check out a 2013 Accord yet but I will in a few days.
Based on looks alone I prefer the Camry interior, I am not a fan of Hondas center stack design at all from the pictures.
I don't know how Honda aggressively prices the Accord so well. Maybe they are cutting profits to try and get the top spot. I will give the Accord is more car for the money but in the segment as a whole the Camry isn't a cheap pile of junk it's being paraded as. You would think from the posts we were referring to a 1993 Corsica or something.
Rumors have it as well that the 2013 Camry is going to start a standard options war with the Accord.
Also durability of this expensive dash hasn't been stated. Have you seem the dah of let's say a 2000 Camry they are cracked and coming apart just like similar year Accords. 2002 cars aren't doing much better.
How Honda is planning on building that many Accords at that price with those options I will never know but it's probably only going to hurt all car makers as a whole as people will expect even more for less money. Imaging what a 2012 Accord owners feels like with a similarly pricd car that gets less fuel economy, less options, looks worse, yet still cost nearly an identical price. How did Honda add direct injection, back up camera, a better dash, more safety feature and a better interior while keeping the price increase below inflation?

Fyi gen1 and gen2 Camry dash came with fake stitching also. I did't really think much about it at the time, however. When my dad bought a gen3, I was really impressed with that dash material.
My 2000 camry LE actually has a nice dash material, but unfortunately, Toyota cheaped out on everything else (like the lower dash plastic)
