I've driven in a lot of places in the US over the last 25 years. Bad driving and bad drivers have been pretty consistent throughout.

We couldn't be more different in that regard. I don't care how good a engine sounds I still need the radio playing good music. I used to only turn the music down if I wanted to hear the engine while gunning it but otherwise I've always had the radio going. Slap in a good cd and crank it up. You're missing out.

I'm missing out on driving a Vette but that's beside the point.

It's worse now in my experience. More people around than then hence more idiots on the roads now too.

Radio is always on in the truck and wife's car.

It's very rarely on in the Vette.

How could you NOT like these?

What Transformer is this new Vette going to be? Obviously it has been styled in hopes of being a Transformer character.

Good music? You mean from the 60s 70s and part of the 80s?

I don't know, I think MN would challenge you on that one

Left lane hogs galore. I know its nationwide but it seems worse here (MN). And of course one little flurry you have accidents, traffic is horrible, people driving 20mph. Its barely inclement weather and suddenly no one can drive.

I will get off of my soap box

Drivers have not gotten any dumber, but they have gotten much worse...thanks to the many added distractions created by cell phones and other gadgets.

The anecdotal "because I said so" that drivers are worse doesn't represent reality I'm afraid.

Quote:
Since just 2005, traffic fatalities have fallen by more than 25% and when measured in terms of deaths per mile driven the figure has reached its lowest level since record-keeping began in 1921, according to NHTSA.
I'm not denying there are plenty of bad drivers on the roads but the idea that its somehow worse than it's ever been just isn't the case. Everyone always thinks things are worse than they've ever been regardless of the topic at hand be it bad drivers, drug use, or what have you.

Ever stop to consider that improved safety in cars just may have something to do with that statistic?

If you don;t think there are far more distracted drivers now than ever before..well, then you are ignorant.

Statistics are misleading. They can be used to support or skewer anything.

Fact is that today's drivers suck. They pay way more attention to their phone than they do their driving in many cases. Traffic deaths are down (due to safety improvements) but the number of actual accidents is WAY up. They just aren't killing everybody.

For many it is hard to drive and talk on the cell phone at the same time.

Exactly! How many cars enveloped you in 50 "smart" airbags in a crash prior to 2005?

Now they are putting in sensors to tell the morons that are texting that they are swerving out of their lane.
