22 re idle problem whats new!!

Hello,

Hopefully I do this right!! I just signed up and of course have some of the same problems with my truck as others.
My 95 5 speed 22re idles kinda rough when warm, it also seems to stumble (miss) a little when idling or taking off no matter what gear, also it seems to be missing when at a steady cruise (any speed)
Have replaced plugs, wires, cap and rotor adjusted valves and idle speed as it was idling around 500, bumped it to around 800 or so, now it has a good fast idle also, and kicks down normally but shortly thereafter it starts to roughen up. Oh also it has the noisy valve train (adjusted valves) but still noisy
There seems to be lots of things for me to try to eliminate those possibilities. Just thought I would add in case mine was maybe different.
Also I have something knocking in my suspension when I go over what I think is a small bump on passenger side, steering seems tight and drives real straight. I hear the sound more to about where the torsion bar is mounted under cab but only on passenger side, any ideas?? Going over rumbles does not give me any problems only when the suspension travels up a ways.
Sorry so long, hard to describe in a few words
any ideas will be appreciated
thanks for being here everyone
Bob

The oxygen sensor is replaced for free in the USA only when the vehicle reaches it's first 80 000 miles regardless of the age & number of owners as stated in the factory owner's manual in the maintenance section, some Toyota dealerships are reluctant to replace it for free if that happens contact the Toyota regional head office for your region where they will give your local dealership 48 hours to comply.
On average the oxygen sensors should be replaced every 6 years or 100 000 miles or so which ever comes first as stated in the owner's manual, warranty booklet and factory service manual.

Symptoms of a bad o2 sensor are poor gas mileage, hesistation in acceleration, worse emmissions, and in severe cases after the stat opens the engine can no longer maintain stable 750 rpm (with manual 5 spd tranny) idle and the engine begins to stall.
The 02 sensor is designed to function once the vehicle has warmed up which is about after 10 minutes where the thermostat begins to open at 190 or 195 degrees Ferenheit depending on thermostat then the vehicles ECU system enters what they call a "closed loop system" then the exhaust manifold's temperature reaches 400 degree Ferenheit (I think)that's where the sensor starts to do it's job which is usually when the thermostat first opens up then the oxygen sensor senses the ratio of air to fuel and sends a signal back to the ECU then ECU compensates by increasing or decrease the open time for the fuel injectors to pump fuel.So usually the problem of stalling shows up after about 10 minutes of driving or so.Many folks think that the o2 sensor is bad but an exhaust leak can cause excess oxygen to enter the exhaust system thereby fooling the sensor into thinking there is too much oxygen, there are other problems that could cause it to give false reading such as a vaccuum leak.

If you discover that the o2 sensor is bad and it is not under warranty then from my/others experience/research purchase an o2 sensor in the following order:

1)Toyota (NipponDenso now called Denso)
2)Denso aftermarket (Same as original but sold aftermarket)
3)NTK (oxygen sensor division of NGK)

Thanks for the reply, interesting info, knowledge is power!! I will check with local dealership about the 80,000 mile replacement. Might as well have a new o2. I am also going to do all the cleaning and such.
Thanks again

also might need to check the fuel filter. If the truck has been run very low on gas, any trash that is in the bottom of the tank may have been sucked up by the fuel pump and ended up in the filter causing it to clog and not get enough gas to the motor. just an idea. as far as the suspension. could be anything. are the torsion bars cranked at all?

I am not sure exactly where the noise is coming from now, just put a hitch on it and was towing a not so big trailer and the noise seemed to come from the rear this time, and now even without the trailer I can hear a noise from the rear suspension when going over a speed bump or a bouncy road. Hard to find when I cannot make it do it in the driveway!! I see no busted springs or anything obvious. As far as the torsion bars, the truck seems to have not much clearance, I had an 82 2wd pu some years ago which had plenty of clearance. I have noticed that the front suspension stops are hitting often as the metal is shiny, I am not beating this truck or anything it just seems to be weak in the suspension. Maybe someone has cranked the bars down. How high should mine sit? It has 205/75-14 tires which are not hitting anything.
I just bought this truck a month ago and it was a one owner, owned by an older man, cannot imagine him lowering it!!
The hitch is close to the rear spring shackle but not that close, do not see it hitting anything.
Is there a good way of beefing up the rear suspension? as this truck is not as tough as my 82 was.
Thanks to all
