i'm a nooooooob guys

name's mike, i have a 93 regular cab 2x4 that's lowered on some mustang wheels. it's definately a project/daily driver.

i am into bagged vehicles, i am currently in the process of bagging my harley davidson f-150, and shaving the handles, bedsides, front steps, molding in a rollpan, and 2 tone candy paint.

my toyota is giving me fits though. i have done a few searches on here and i guess it's a common problem. the idle is super high, but it goes away if i pop the throttle a little. but as soon as i accelerate it will start to idle high again. i've noticed too, that the temp never reads much above cold, so i am going to check the coolant temp sensor in the morning. i am also getting a check engine light under acceleration, but it goes away right after i let off of the throttle.

sorry for the lengthy introduction, now onto a few pics, these pics were taken before the mustang wheels we're put on.
and my camera isn't that good under low light situations, so i apologize for the blurry pic.
i'll snap a few tomorrow w/ the mustang bullit wheels on it.

How much is it lowered? I recently lowered my truck with 3" blocks, but I'm not entirely happy with the stance. I think it's mostly due to the tire size. I'm going to drop down to a 225/50/16 soon...

SOunds like your idle problem is a stuck idle air valve located on the throttle body. Check out the FSM at the top of this forum for details on checking it.

Take out your middle leaf.

As far as the idle goes, there is an idle adjust scrwew on this little toyotas. If its not constantly high thats not the problem.. I know mine was reving up every time i let off the gas. I bought a tach dropped it down to an 800-900 idle speed and i havent had any problems yet.. This trucks dont have a knock sensor so it wont re-adjust its self

The 22RE does have a knock sensor, but I don't think mine has ever worked. My engine pings like heck if I run less than 91 octane.

I know the knock sensor is there though as I just saw it during my engine work.

How much more will this lower it? And what is roughly involved in removing it? Sorry I'm a noob with trucks. You can PM if you like -- don't want to hijack the thread. I was thinking about just ordering the JDM 4" drop blocks.

i have been playing w/ the idle on this truck for a good 4 hours.

i still can't seem to get the rpm's down after i let off of the throttle.

it will fire up and idle up like normal, drop like normal, but when i give it moderate gas, the rpm's will still stay up....

If the coolant doesn't come up to temp the ECM (computer) will think the engine is cold and will kick in the cold start high idle.

Get the correct thermostat in there and I bet your problem gets solved.

Wanna see your truck with a shell on it ???

I Was Reading Through The Posts And Wondering When Someone Was Gonna Reccomend The Thermostat Be Replaced.. Id Almost Met Its Not Even In There. If It Is Its Probabally Stuck Open Or A Fail Safe That Failed Safe.... That Or Your Coolant Temp Sensor Has The Truck Running Rich. To Understand The Problem You Will Need To Understand How Efi Works And What Each Sensor Does...

As Far As The Weird Idle After Giving It Gas Id Try Removing The Intake Tube From The Front Of The Tb And Cleaning The Throttle Body Out , Being Carefull Not To Soak The Tps Sensor. Sounds Kinda Like The Throttle Is Sticking A Bit Or Somebody Messed With The Throttle Stop And Dashpot And Didnt Adjust The Tps Or The Tps Went Bad.. Any Codes Come Up

ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION THE OBVIOUS... IF ITS LOW ON COOLANT OR THE RADIATOR CAP ISNT HOLDING PREASSSURE YOU MAY HAVE TROUBKE WITH ACCURATE TEMP READINGS..
