Did you check the large amp fusible link between the battery cable and the cars electrical system?

Also check the battery cables, both ends.

Cables are good. There is power to the main fuse block thats above the battery. I checked the am1 and am2 fuse location and the both have plenty of voltage along with the alt 80amp fuse. Still nothing

my sister has a 99 4runner and this same thing happened. she was driving down a road and she lost all power and nothing worked. no lights no acc. no nothing. no fuses were blown under the dash or under the hood and nothing looked out of the ordinary. it ended up being her starter shorted out and grounded itself through the chassis and it was drawing all the power from the battery. mechanic said it damn near burned a hole in the side of the starter because it got so hot.

Bad ground??? do you have a security system that might disable some of the electrical system? have you tried bypassing the selonoid/switch circut with a jumper cable from the batt to the starter? how did the problem happen? was it sitting in the driveway, driving down the highway or bounceing down a trail?

Thanks,

The 22-RE is used in many years of 4-Runners/pickups therefore the free 1985 Toyota 4-Runner/pickup factory service manual below has electrical diagram pages that allow you to isolate fault.Be sure to check main relay above fuses in driver's side kick panel.

In North America the 22R & 22R-E s are used in the following:

22R
1981-82 Toyota Corona
1981-83 Celica
1981-87 Toyota pickup (up to 1990 on 2wd)
1984-87 Toyota 4-Runner

22R-E (22REC=California emissions=extra charcoal canister)
1983-85 Celica
1985-95 Toyota pickup
1985-95 Toyota 4-Runner

22RTE (Turbo EFI)
1985-87 Toyota 4-Runner
1985-87 Toyota pickup

NOTES:
If you have a pre-84 vehicle with an external voltage regulator, the ignition/charging section will not work for you. If you have an ’85 vehicle, make note as to whether you are carbed or EFI, as the ignition systems are not the same.
Accurate links for pre-84 charging/ignition systems would be appreciated.

Regarding the FSM, WARNING: Do not try and open this file over the internet no matter HOW fast your connection is; Adobe WILL lock up. This document is 1025 pages long!

Tech note from lscotte: Firefox users may not need this download tool. Right click>save link as...

Download AmazingDown 1.62 first.
Then in that program press the "New" button on the tool bar and copy and paste the URL below into the corresponding dialogue box and click download. This will greatly speed up the process of downloading such a big file from a server that isn't quite the fastest out there. Once the file is downloaded you can open it from your hard drive. (folder entitled ‘downloaded’)

Free 1989 - 1995 Pickup Mitchell Service Manual:
You can download the winrar archiver from: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
And The ISO file can be downloaded from:
http://www.filecrunch.com/file/~ga05yg <--- Part 1
http://www.filecrunch.com/file/~tlgobs <--- Part deux
The two rar files are 90 Megabytes in size, but once unrared it is a 300 Megabyte ISO image.BTW: File will be removed automatically if there is no download for 30 days.

FSM (factory service manual) can be acquired in several ways:

Toyota Material Distribution Center
750 West Victoria St
Rancho Dominguez/Compton, CA 90220-5538
USA
Ph:1-800-622-2033 (outside CA)(M-F: 7-5 PST)
Ph:1-800-443-7656 (inside CA)

Speak to Beverly or Deloris
http://techinfo.toyota.com/public/main/mdc.html
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/FSM.shtml

1)buy a used one off e-bay
2)some Toyota dealerships may give you one or sell it for $10-20 (used) as most Toyota dealerships don't repair many old Toyotas and no longer need the service manual
3)some public libraries sell their old books as they are not in demand any longer
4)some free buy & sell classified papers, websites and bulletin boards may have some used ones for sale
5)some junk yards may have one laying around
6)some Toyota specialty garages may have one laying around and no longer use it as the vehicle may be too old and those mechanics probably have so much experience that they could publish their own factory service manual with corrections and "real world repair tips"
7)if someone has the FSM maybe they could scan all of the pages and post it on a site for all of us to download or view.

Inspect the positive battery cable and terminal at the starter solenoid. If there is a second cable, possibly a 12 awg cable, connected at the same terminal, it could be that this cable is damaged (open).

This isn't my normal neck of the woods, but is the ignition switch known for problems? Could be that based off of what you're describing.
