What weight fluid?

For the trans and transfer case? I see that it should be 75/90, but I can only find 80/90 I like to think that it wouldn't matter, if not be better since it's so old.
Also, all I have seen is GL3/4/5 all in one bottle, but I have read that GL5 eats the syncros. I find that hard to believe, but don't know.
Thanks!

I did find some 75/90 today. But it was mobil one. At 10 bucks a quart. This truck takes about 17 quarts including the diffs, no way I'm doing that, overkill.

I used Amsoil synthetic manual transmission fluid (gl4) and Amsoil synthetic in the transfer case. Aswell as in both the diffs

Get a nice GL4 gear oil for your t-case. 85w-90..

Why do you recommend 85/90? Toyota recommends 75/90? Not a big difference, but I'm anal and need reason.

the first number is the viscosity of the oil---- and since you are not worried about 'flow' , it doesn't make a daymn bit of difference !!!!!!
any 75-80/90 will work !!!! (Marlin recommends 80/120 !!!) so what ???? the parts are immersed and won't know the difference !

as in engine oil----- toyota does not recommend Mobil 1-- so you shouldn't use it ??????

in the winter i run 10/40, in the summer i run 20/50--- (i live in the mojave desert and it gets HOT in the summer !

in the tires-- i usually run 28/35 psi in my '93--- in my 85, i run 8 and 5 psi !!! NOT what toyota recommends---- but they don't run 36's and don't know the application in which i use the trucks !!!!

toyota uses 'red' antifreeze--- so you can't use green-yellow-purple ?????

you will likely find that your tranmission will shift stiffly when cold if you use 80w90. I've found that 75w90 GL-4 works best.

Its no problem to use 80w90 or 85w90 GL-4 or GL-5 in the transfer or the rear diff.

if you've got a ADD front diff you definitely want to use GL-5 in it.

p.s. I think they hold 17 pints not quarts

My mistake, I run 75w-90 in my diffs and t-case. I just made a typo I ran 80w-90 in there for awhile... no biggie.

Oh and btw, toyota red coolant is best I use it... talk about anal! Its 2x the price of green antifreeze..

Nobody really answered the question about the GL3/4/5 labelled bottle.... I
m doing this for my truck too since I ran in high water last weekend, the local NAPA has 80/85W-90 gear oil that's labeled as GL3/4/5 on the back. Can I use that for both diffs, the t-case and the MT?
-Kai
Edit:
Also, I've been using Peak green coolant, what exactly are the cons of using that and not red yota stuff? Should I really be worried about it?

Yes you can use that NAPA fluid in everything. In the winter you might find the shifting a bit stiff until the fluid warms up is all. I prefer synthetic fluids myself.

Had you been using the Toyota red coolant all along I would have recommended you stick with it. Since you haven't don't worry about it.
