Building a truck bed

I have a 1989 4x4 short box and the box is rusting out. Cannot find a box and can't spend over 2000 for a new one. I was thinking of getting fiberglass sides and rebuilding the bottom. I've never done anything like this and was wondering what kind of work/expense it would entail. I'm not trying to make it look showroom quality, just want it to pass inspection and be functional. The truck works great and I want to get another couple years out of it.

Any comments or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

if/when mine rusts out i'll put a flatbed on it. local power / utility / city auctions usually have a flat bed or utility bed that is small enough for our trucks.

a few dents mayb,e but man look at the lockable storage !

I am also looking for a bed and considered bed sides. My bed is actually in good shape with no rust on the bottom. It is around the fender wells. I thought about fiberglass bed sides but have not been able to find instructions for installation except for later models. Later models had factory bedsides available. So my 1987 could be a nightmare of an installation.

Good luck and hope to see someone reply.

Thanks for the link. I understand that these years had OEM bed sides available from the Toyota so the installation is easier. It is the earlier years that are more difficult to install. I will call the company and ask if what I understand is true, Thanks
