93 Waterpump Accident Question

Hi Alls!

Quick question:

My brother crashed my 93 P/U. I was taking everything apart to replace the radiator and fan clutch when I noticed the water pump pulley was pushed back about .25-.5"/6-13mm. It was pushed back enough to lock up the water pump.

I was thinking of just replacing the water pump, but then I started wondering if anything behind the water pump could have also been damaged.

Before I purchase the things I need to get, do you guys feel this minimal damage is not enough to cause any problems behind the water pump? Worst case scenario, I'm thinking possible block damage, etc. I didn't take the pump off because I'm missing a few tools that I need. So I figured I'd just ask here before going out and buying it all.

I would guess it is only the pump shaft that is bent. You're going to have to take it off anyway. Just take it off BEFORE you buy the new one just in case.

V6 or 4cyl?

If it is a 22RE 4cyl I'd suggest pulling the waterpump off and inspecting for damage to the timing cover.

If it is a 3VZE V6, the fan clutch and pulley do not attach to the waterpump, it is a "fan bracket" and is less likely to have caused further damage. The waterpump is under this fan bracket and is driven by the timing belt.

Sounds like a lot of damage,

good luck

if it is a 22r that front timing cover is aluminum and would give before the block, i would still look closely at the block.the timing cover has a volute in it for the water pump make sure that is not damaged either.

Great news!

No damage to the rear of the water pump area. Shaft was simply or whatnot. but the important thing is that the blades/shaft didnt move back far enough to cause any damage.
