89 pickup carb problems

I cant figure out why my truck wont idle correctly. It runs fine but it has a spitting problem at low idle. The fuel in the float glass seems to be to high, how do i fix that? I have a Haynes repair manual,it tells me i sould have an idle mix screw,& an idle speed screw, but all i can find is the idle speed screw. How do i make adjustments and what sould i do? Its a 1989 22R Carb.

Thanks,
flipone

If your carburetor is similar to the earlier models, there is an adjustment screw on top of the bowl for adjusting the float level. However, if it was right at one time, you might have a problem with the float. Depending on what type it is, it might have a leak or has become saturated. If so, replacement is in order. The idle mix screw is usually sealed, or in some way made hard to tweak for pollution control reasons.
