22RE: 1989 4runner -> 1993 Pickup

I have a recently purchased 1993 Pickup, manual, 4x4, 5 speed
xtra cab with 200k miles and a dead engine VIN JT4RN13P0P6059578

So I went to my boneyard and they had a 1989 4 runner, with a 22RE
engine in it, 152k miles with 177/176/165/175 compression, and 60 cold/40 hot oil pressure, VIN JT4RN62D0K0236632

I was wondering how compatable the engines were.
Can I swap distributer, manifolds, computer, timeing chain
components, gasgets. or what.

Or another way of putting this is what is different.

In addition, what should I replace while the engine is out.
At least the timing chain guides.

if both are 22re then they are the same. far as things that might be diffrent i not sure . would just be external things i would think. like manfoilds. maybe a a bracket or so. i would change the timing belt.and yes the parts on the blown motor in the truck should all fit on the 4runner motor. if it was me i would also take off the valve covers and the oil pan to do bearing inspections on the crank, and check the cams and so on.

that is a good idea.

I'll see what I can do about it.

Thumbs up 22re engine swap

I just put a 85 22re with 36,000 mi out of a motor home in my 92 22re 4x4 and its a piece of cake. No.1 thing..........steel timing chain guides from DOA racing at about 80.00,buddy, this is very important if you go cheap anywhere else, do this!!!!!! Strip motor to block and put all the 93 stuff on it. Use a gasket from victor on the pan and use a new water pump from toyota. Basically bud, all new gaskets, hoses (and throw away those worthless almost hose spring clamps and closse your eyes so you don't see where they land and get some worm drives) Use ultra copper silicone on your half moons on your valve cover. SPECIAL TAKE NOTE------- if when you remove the timing cover, the gasket comes with the cover instead of staying on the bottom side of the head, cut a headgasket front piece for the part that came off and use ultra copper when you go back together at this spot. If you neglect this procedure, you will surely break your cover when you tighten the hidden bolt under the cam sprocket. OH, buy the way, when you pull the 93, be aware of all the harness that has to pull thru engine parts to clear the moror coming out. Take your time and mark and I mean mark all the bolts that go to a part coming off. I use cupcake pans and sticky pads, but i am real picky about the right bolts in the right place. Hopes this helps Tim
