1991 22re going into 1994 pickup

I want to put a 1991 22re into 1994 pickup which also has a 22re motor. THe 1991 truck was 2wd and the 1994 truck is 4wd. What problems am i going to have or is it going to be a direct bolt in? Is there going to be any problems using the exsisting 1994 computer or will have to swap it out with the 1991 computer?
Anything else i am missing?

Thanks for you help,
Jay

if you live in California you wont be ablwe to smog your truck. the rule is that you must put in an engine that is from the same year or newer.

I'd make sure the harnesses are the same between the old engine and the one you are putting in.other than that, the 2wd/4wd shouldn't be an issue.if they aren't,use the one off the '94 and swap over the intake and throttle body if necessary.

the harness would be the main thing along with the ecu. some ecu have 3 plugs and some have 2. use the one that came in the truck you plan on using.. all the connections should be the same. i remember i did the opposite swap from a 4wd donor to my 2wd and the whole thing was a direct swap except for the oil pan is a little bigger on the 4wd and was rubbing against the steering center link. i would not worry for the opposite because tghe 4wd is a bigger pan than the 2wd and yourt engine is froim a 2wd. the only connections that are different could possibly be the starter , alt, and ecu everything else should be the same man. easy one day project with the right tools and a helper.

Well if I was doing the job,I would be using all the old stuff. Use all the original engine sensors, wiring, ecu, intake plenum, etc from the original engine. I put a 92 4Runner engine into my 91 Xtracab 4x4 and my buddy from the boneyard told me to use my original bits and intake plenum(considering it ran smooth before). He says that unless you've got an exact match for within a few months you're safer changing it back over. As it went, there was several diferences, and the 4Runner had a few more sensors, so I was glad for the advice and used my truck's original ones. Certainly don't mix and match, and remember and auto/manual tranny will also make a difference...
