gas mileage 86 pick-up 22r

I have an 86 toyota pick-up long bed(regular cab) with a 22r (original engine (carb) with only 65,000 miles.) It has a 5 speed tranny and has no topper. I am only getting 18-20 miles a gallon on regular gas in around town driving. I have not checked my highway gas mileage. Is this normal gas mileage? It has had a recent tune-up,new filters, belts, etc, and valve adjustment.Does anyone know what the posted gas mileage is on this truck that TOYOTA put on the window sticker when new? Truck runs great, just was hoping for better gas mileage. Anybody know what I should be getting?

Is this 4wd or 2wd? Normal if it's 4wd. Pretty crappy if it's 2wd.

According to the brochure, a 5 speed 22r 2wd should get 24 town and 32 highway.

I have an 85 2WD with the 22R. I get 24 city 28 HWY. Maybe I could get 32 HWY if I drove 55 but I go 75.

Yeah, 18-20 is pretty bad.

I was getting 17-21 mpg hwy on my truck when I got it a couple of years ago.She knocked and pinged like crazy, even on premium. It had 130k miles on it. I had to do something. I cleaned the throttle body out, new plugs, added a Tornado, and most importantly, checked the timing. I retarded it a little, this helped the most. Now I get 29-30 hwy on 87 octane. It took a little grunt out of her , but ,overall she runs alot better and the gas milage is terrific!

I have an 87 22r carbed engine extended cab long bed two wheeldrive pickuip with automatic transmission with well over 200000 miles and it gets around 19 city/highway. You know these days with the crappy fuel we get its a wonder that we get what we get. These etho-blend fuels were not meant for our older trucks.

~22mpg city, ~24 highway, ~23mpg towing 2 tons of scrap, ~23mpg hauling ~1000lbs. I have managed to get almost 30mpg city (just trips to the grocers) by planning the trip so the truck works hard going up a hill, and then I coast with the engine off for almost 3 (out of ~8) miles. But that's cheating. I should really try to fiddle with timing and how rich my carb is running, but I don't know much about 'em so I'm a bit wary.

retarding the ignition will not help mileage its better on emissions to a certain point, advancing makes it better i am running stock 4wd spec 8 degrees from the 0 the 2wds run with exhaust only with no cat 2 1/4 in and if i dont get on it i can get 25mpg with a good majority of town driving. also those tornados are a rip off they dont really work its probably in your mind

I too have a 85 long bed 2wd and get like 18-19mpg. It does seem like my carb is crappy, but not sure. I did put in a new shortblock with head and valves like 10k miles ago. Would getting a new carb help me out?

'86 2x4 long bed, 110,000 miles, 22r I get 25 mpg at 70-80 mph, before my tune up. I just recently did, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and fuel filter, prolly won't get any better, but it did remove a slight miss.
