Please help - 85 toyota pickup smog in CA

I'm experiencing some major heartbreak over this 1985 toyota pickup I bought in Oregon. It's beautiful with straight body, clean interior, and great engine (135k original). The previous owner did the weber carb swap and put in a 32/36 DGV 5A. Runs great.

I recently moved home to California to be closer to family. Took my lovely new truck in to be smogged and we passed tailpipe BUT... the mechanic tells me the carb is illegal, the pulse air injection is missing, the thermatic air cleaner assembly is missing, the 'wrong type of hose is on pcv system EGR no vacuum signal.' Also I'm told the manual choke is illegal in CA.

I'm only mildly mechanical. I bought the truck in part to have a rig I could understand and learn about. I don't know how to find these parts or install them but I reckon I could figure it out with some help. What to do about the manual choke I can't imagine. The mechanic tells me it will be extremely difficult for him to find these parts and the hours he would spend on the phone looking will cost me dearly. He wasn't very helpful.

I need some help from people who know and love toyota pickups. I fell for this rig immediately and I want to keep it but I don't know how to figure this all out.

Any leads on those parts or alternative ideas to get the truck up to CA smog?
OR - Ideas on circumventing CA smog?

Thanks a lot. I'd be grateful for any ideas.

That's a tough one. The best thing may be to find a carbed donor truck and go back to the stock set up.

I don't know how close they look, or how many times you can try or whatever...

But weber sells a adapter that allows you to install a stock/factory air cleaner, that would pretty much "hide" the weber. Perhaps get one and take it to a couple different places until you get someone that aint doing their job 100%?

Does your DMV renewal paper say "test only Station" for your smog? If it does there is no way you could hide that weber. It would fail the visual test before it even blew.

I would suggest you buy a stock carb to throw on every other year to get your tags. You have to enjoy working on cars. Good luck!

Sounds about right... The list of reasons is already too long to read off in a given lifetime to begin with. Thank the do-it-yourself Mechanic Gods (various ones you might swear to when they play their mischief while you try and fix stuff), that I live in AZ...no smog except in Phoenix.
