'83 pickup suspension question...

I own an 83 4x4 with just under 200k miles. On my front end (both sides), the leaf springs are not u-shaped...they have never been since I owned the truck. They are pretty much flat. In fact, the are leaning to the side of being "n" shaped! I've never seen another vechicle in this condition, so I'm going to make the assumption that something is wrong. What's the best fix? New shocks and new leaf-springs? I do most auto repair work myself but I have little to no experience with suspensions, I appreciate anyone who could impart so knowledge my way! Thanks.

Talking 83 a Great Year

What's up! It's great to see people still own these great trucks especailly 79-83. Sounds like your Leaf Springs are warned out since they are most likely the Orginal ones. You can find the orignal or lift Leaf springs easy Since the Suspension is so popular on this truck.
The Best way to replace the Springs is to put the Truck on a shop lift (if you can have axcess to a shop).

thanks

Thanks for the info, any suggestions for vendors... Also, I'd like to smooth out the ride a bit, would replacing the shock absorber, get me anywhere? If so any recommendations.

It runs great, although I'm not getting out into the backcountry much anymore ( a 17 month old daughter and another on the way). So a smoother ride sounds more appealing right now.

Alcan or Deaver, but I'm not sure if they make leafs for the front though.

edit: try http://www.customsuspension.com/Services.php as well, they're based out of Canada.
