I have an 87 Toyota that needs some upgrades. I have just gotten into offroad stuff, and want some extra horses from my 2.4 cyl beast. Any cheap suggestions for a 16 year old with a normal job? Thanks. Oh, and I want to get some new wheels for it.
see, the thing is, i wanna know if i should just wait until i get out of highschool and out from under my parents to upgrade the beast. because, i dont have much cash, but am tired of no horspower. i would like even 10 or 20 more. and, prob stuff like airfilters and what not.
i put a header on my 85 and loved it. is sounded and drove better. it was like $200. some people put K&N air filters in them but i woldent recomend it if u think you will be in mud at all. jest put a set of nice off road tires on it and it will be unstopable. i got my stock rims powder coted black (on a black truck) and it looks beutiful.
if you jump over to the celica forum and look at "new to mods" I spelled out some simple and cheep places to start. just make sure you are tuned up properly first then you will know what you have gained with each step. and yes lc engineering has the best products and most knolagable staff arround.
Dude first off dont hit LCengineering to buy anything. theyve got good tech but thats all that company should be used for. You said you were looking for cheap mods, well that is not LC or DOA.
start off with a header and exhaust. pacesetter makes a good tri-y for $120 from www.sumittracing.com. do a pipe diameter of 2inches from the header back to a new free flowing muffler. that'll get you max torque for 4wheeling. if you dont have to worry about emmisions do the broomstick 'cleaning' mod to your catalitic converter. the whole exhaust syster should run under $300 (shop around) and is your best starting point.
get some air into your carb witha good filter that gets some direct air from up front. an electric fan can be scavenaged from any car and hooked up to save some hp. cams are pretty easy to change up but only after or with some intake/exhaust mods. I got alot of my tech from the celica sites where guys are trying to make power. just remember what you are trying to do and ask questions. Im sure there are some carb options/ upgrades for you too. hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestions dudes. I have some pics of das beast here if you want to check em out. This truck is a GREAT offroader, even if it is all stock, but, that's why we all love Toyota's eh. I can't wait to get some cash and upgrade my interals, and, one question, how much would it cost to get a good powder coat on the wheels. And, what color match the "beautiful" baby shit color. Oh, and, one last thing, what are some good image hosting sites. I looked, but, can't find some to show pics of the truck.
Yo, anyone know where to get a good brush guard, or should i just ghetto one like my back bumper, which is an oak 4x4 held to the truck with grader blade iron. Woot, that bumper is hoss, saved me from 2 rear end wrecks thanks to women drivers, old people, and rain.
i think this is what u mean by image hosting http://www.photobucket.com/
that rear bumper is intoresting. i wouled keep it. it looks kinda low thow. might scrape the droung on a real steep hill but thats ok. and the frony bumper thing that wouled depend on the $ u wanna pay. look at this one on my dads truck (i hope the link works) http://public.fotki.com/livexitxup/s...ads_truck.html
Ya, the bumper is low for a reason though. Stopped the people that rear-ended me from tearing up the truck's underside. It is a great bumper for hitting shopping carts, small animals, and trees with too.
