1985 pickup w/22r ignition problem

Hello,

Okay guys, my father and I are completely stumped with this problem. I was driving home from school when I suddlenly lost power (spark) after hitting a bump. Now the truck refuses to start, though it turns over freely. We have replaced the spark plugs, rotor, cap, wires, coil, and the igniter without any change. The fuses in the engine are all still good, as are the ones under the dash. Is there a relay or curcuit breaker somewhere that could be causing this problem? Thank you in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Travis

I forgot to mention that I also replaced my pick-up coil inside the distributor. The problem is that there is no power going to the igniter. Could this mean that the open curcuit relay is bad, if so, does anyone know where it is? Also does this model have any fuseable links, i saw it mentioned in another thread? If it helps i have power going to everything else, just not to the ignition system, I'm really puzzled.

Anyone have any ideas at all? I mean it has come to a point of inspecting each and every wire to try to find a broken link, not to mention the fact that it's 108 degrees. Even though the starter spins freely, could the ignition switch be a factor? I'm willing to take any idea you guys can give me, I'm completely stumped.

We finally got it fixed. When replacing the signal generator/pick-up coil make sure that you adjust the gap to within about .024" or else your truck won't start as mine did. Hope this helps anyone that has had this problem, or may encounter it in the future.

If you have a fully transitorized ignition system, you will notice a signal rotor or generator where you would normally find points inside the distributor. The pickup coil has to be gapped to within about .025", toyota says that these don't need adjustment, but when we replaced it, we didn't think to check the gap. There are screws that allow you to move it in and out, using a plastic feeler gauge, adjust to within spec and your truck should start fine. The funny thing about these systems is that this piece completes the ignition cycle and without it you won't get spark from your coil, making you think you have a bad coil, or even worse a bad ignitor. I didn't get a chance to see what my dad actually did, but most likely you need to check the gap between your signal generator and the relutor inside your distributor. Hope you can knock this problem out.

you could check the icu... computer this could have faild and in doing so your truck has lost its mind the relay is just above this as well had water get in this on my 88 and short out would trun over but not start.... another thing would be to check to make sure that curent is flowing through the wires as needed for if a wire has broken this will not allow the cirect to compleat just a few ideas of thing to check .

Myself just got another 88 up and running someone tryed to fix found the oil pump gears rturned around and no oil pan gasket got all this fix and running it down the road now.
