anybody else have alternator belt problems???

When I first got my truck the alternator belt was so loose you could just about spin the alternator pulley with the engine OFF.

I replaced both belts and this will be the 3rd time Ive had to tighten the alt belt inside of 6 months. WTF?? Are the parts stores stocking the wrong belt for this thing?

Anybody else had magically loosening alternator belts in their trucks?

not to sound like a dumb question, but... did you tighten both bolts? there is the pivot and the keeper... if you leavee one loose, it could loosen up the belt. just a thought

Yep Im sure I tightened both bolts. The only thing I wish I would have done is marked the adjuster slide to see if its the alternator thats loosening up or if the belt is stretching/wearing. I guess its possible that I havent been tightening it enough

You might want to make sure that the slide adjuster is not loose. I had the same problem and everything was tight and could not figure it out. I finially found that where the slide bolts to the block was missing the bolt. Rebolted it and everything has been fine since.
