Dont use it. K&Ns let a lot of dirt into your engine. I had just a K&N airfilter on my F-150 and the other day I found that my intake had dust all inside of it.
Use either a foam or a paper airfilter.

I've had one on fro 50,000 miles and not dirt problem but I don't drive off road. it does give better throttle response, but not much power. Just in stalled a MSD Master Balster II coil ($29), opened my toyota sparks to a 0.40 gap and it does give more power. Worth the money.

This should answer your question

http://home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm

"Compared to the AC, the K&N “plugged up” nearly 3 times faster, passed 18 times more dirt and captured 37% less dirt"

i don't know if this matters but the other trucks that had dirt in them were dodges and fords which aren't known for their quality anways. and they were deisels which might be a little different than our toyota pickups.
