Question Highlander weird Problem Starting sometimes

Hey guys this has happend to my moms highlander randomly a total of like maybe 5 times already.

Heres what happens...
we get back to her car... either from juss getting off work, or just leaving the mall. and well when we go to start the car it turns fine, and it sounds like its gonna start but its like its shutting off its self. my mom said it happened at work and her friend said that it happened to her too. her friend said its a Toyota safety or antitheft thing.
is this true? why would it just happen so randomly. well her friend helped my mom out and said that how you bypass the or whatever is you push the throttle all the way down and start it, and it jump starts the car. and then all is well. runs fine.

just wanted to know if this is normal, and if anyone has done this...

Might be the idle control sensor

It could be sticking from carbon buildup. $500 parts and labor at the dealer. It was happening to us for six months. It gets worse and happens more frequently as time goes on. good luck.

Try cleaning the throttle body with cleaners that are sensor safe. I did that to our and it worked. I think it had to do with cheap fuel cause it started happening when I started using 87 octane. See if it works.
