02 Highlander Alarm Location

I have an 02 Highlander, and the horn or device that makes the beeping noise when I arm the alarm has stopped working. Does anyone know the location of it so I can replace it? It's always sounded like it was coming from around the firewall and the hood release vicinity, but of course I can't confirm that now

If you go to a dealer to get a new one, the parts guy will probably be willing to find it in the service manual and show you where it's at. (The service manual has a few pages of diagrams that show where all of the various electrical parts are located.) It's not the regular horn - it's a separate piezo buzzer. I've seen the manuals refer to it as the "keyless buzzer". I can't speak for the Highlander, but on other V6 Toyotas, I've seen the buzzer in the engine compartment, located along the front fender on the driver's side.

Thanks for your reply. I don't like dealing with dealerships; I was hoping to hit a junkyard and salvage one. Do you think a Chilton's manual would have the appropriate diagram to help me locate it?

Yeah, Chilton's probably would have it.
Another idea... Toyota has a Web site where you can pay to access the actual service manual, owners manual, and TSB's. It costs $10 for one calendar day (until midnight Pacific Time). Everything is online in Adobe PDF format. They've sliced up the manuals into lots and lots of little pieces, so don't expect to download the whole service manual, but you should be able to find the section(s) you care about pretty quickly. It supports keyword search, and all of the PDF's are hyperlinked so that you just click to go to another page that's referenced by what you're reading. The site is http://techinfo.toyota.com.
