You know you could have just polished out the old ones then gave them a good coating of clear coat to keep them from hazing, but there is nothing wrong with new.
Oh and computers and cars aren't so different. They both have very similar troubleshooting paths and installation techniques. All you need to do is familiarize yourself with their specific components and you're set.
Just so you know there is a UV resistant clear coat that is available on the market that will help your new headlights from fogging over like the old ones. You may want to give it a try.
