Hi, we have a 2013 Rav4 Limited AWD and both backup lights stopped working recently. I put in new bulbs, type 921 and also checked fuse no. 14 under the dashboard on the drivers side, and it was OK. What would cause both backup lights to stop working at the same time, I wonder- a switch? Any advice is much appreciated, on the possible cause, and also whether the fix can be done by a non dealer.
Thanks for any advice!
Did you swap the fuse with another one to make sure it was bad (or test it)? Eyeballing fuses isn't reliable unless they're obviously bad. If you've done that, then I would ask if you've have anything like an alarm, remote start, or tow hitch installed (ie did it have any work done that touches the electrical system)?
No, I didn't swap fuses, just looked at it and it didn't appear to be burned out. I can try swapping, except the extra fuses I had around (7.5 amps) were blade fuses and would not fit, as it appears the ones in the Rav4 are a specialized micro type. I read a thread on the Rav4 world forum about how hard they are to find, etc. and some order them online. Maybe have to go to the dealer, AND, wouldn't you know it, we now have 37,000 miles on the vehicle so it is just out of warranty..
