Angry rav4 too much gas consumption

I own a rav 4 2003, air conditionned. automatic.
I have noticed that the gas consumption is quite high.
on road test, it consumes 10 liters per 100 km; in town it consumes 13 liters per 100 km. Am I the only one that has noted this ?????
If I am not the only one is there anyone that has found a solution.

I have a 2001 Rav4 (AC & Automatic) and I’ve noticed the gas consumption also. I did notice that it did consume a decent amount of gas when I first got it. I am in the process of installing a new K&N air filter as well as some new Bosch Platinum spark plugs for some added performance.

I did notice that after using some Prolong super lubricant, the gas consumption was less somewhat so you may want to try giving Prolong a shot.

After the winter is over that’s when I’m going to install the new items. I’ll keep you posted on the changes.

Im not sure what the RAV gets for mileage but what you posted breaks it down to close to 18 miles per gallon. Unfortunate us here in the US dont deal with km, liters, etc.. Anyhow I think the RAV should get closer to 24mpg. My stepdad has a rav and I dont remember him complaining about gas mileage.

I suggest that maybe you should try changing your driving style. Usually when a car gets worse mileage its because the driver is getting up on it and is driving erratically. For example not maintaining a constant speed, jack rabbit starts, etc.

If its a car problem it could be either spark, timing, dirty gas or a dirty air filter. I dont suggest the use of any oil additive. With proper oil changing you dont need that crap. Personally I like Syntec, Ive used it since I bought my MR2 and Ive never had problems with it. Oil thickness can increase or decrease the amount of power of a engine, not like youd really see a dramatic change in power or gas mileage, since oil has different friction characteristics.

You might even want to try shopping for gas someplace else, or trying another octane.

10 litres per 100km works out to about 28 to30 MPG.That is pretty good for a all wheel drive. I get 13 L /100 km that works out to about 22 mpg.

I was getting 30 mpg out of my 91 and 92 prelude . So your MPG is not bad.

Oh yeah I drive a 97 4runner with a 2.7 and oversize tires.

I recalculated it just to be sure I didnt mess up with the conversion. I did use this guys converter which I believe is correct:

http://www.joshmadison.com/software/

10L @ 100km = 23.5mpg
13L @ 100km = 18mpg

Not sure how you are converting it but one of us is off.. Guess I'll have to do some converting with old school formula to be sure this program is accurate.

Either way I dont think the gas mileage posted is too bad. Im getting a little under 20mpg with my Tacoma with the 3.4 v6. It could do a little better if I kept my foot off it :-) A friend of mine has a Ford with the v10 in it.. that puppy gets 8mpg if hes lucky. Goobs of towing power.. too bad its a Ford, not that I want that kind of gas mileage. Hopefully my mileage will improve with a cap.

both of you guys are correct with your conversions. the only difference is that the imperial gallon is approximately 1.2X larger than the US gallon. 1 imperial gallon = 4.54 litres and 1 US gallon =3.78 liters. HTH

dont feel bad about the mileage you're getting - my '00 4Runner is getting about 14 mpg now in the cold Canadian winter ( supercharged with a 160 degree thermostat hurts!)
