Paint Chip Repair

I recently bought a new 2010 RAV4. This morning on the way to work a truck sped past me and kicked up a rock which chipped my paint on the driverside door. It is only a little chip, but I would like to take care of it. Shoulw I take it to the dealer or would any paint shop work? Also, how much should I be looking at paying for something like this? Thanks so much

Sorry to bear bad news....You can repair a paint chip ONLY if it is a solid colour.

Chances are that your RAV is a metalic, pearl or mica.

Solid colours are like white, red, green, blue etc, etc. If it is a metalic or pearl etc, then at least a whole side re-spray is needed....In Aussie dollars, that will be about $1500 to $2500.

Pitty you didn't get the number of the truck!

Dulux have a 2 pack system called COBRA. Clear Over Base Rapid Application = COBRA. In skilled hands COBRA can be used to fix stone chips etc. It will take a very keen eye to spot the repair. At a guess in Aus dollars, a spot repair with COBRA might be $300 to $500.

Or...you could use nail varnish !

At the end of the day....It all comes down to how much you are willing to spend.

PS...2 pack paint uses polyisosyanates (check spelling)...stuff that will kill you! So get someone else to do it if you go for a spray job.
