96 2wd rav4 smoke on startup 140k miles

My new (used) rav4 smokes on startup for about 5 seconds, has 140k miles, drives great otherwise. Any opinions on how many more miles this baby will go if taken well care of? Thanks!

It's prolly just the valve seals. It can go a loooooooooooooooong way like that, but repairing it will save you fuel and tuneup money.

Thanks!

Mileage is about 25, so I think it's pretty good for mixed city/hwy, I'm guessing that valve seals at the shop is going to be many hundreds of dollars??

You can do a leak down test and a fluid analysis test to verify that the valve seals are bad.I recommend that you find an honest experienced engine rebuilder, toyota specialist mechanic or dealership to replace them.
In an average engine the cost of the complete valve seal replacement job is about $200.

I had a '97 Camry 4cyl that was one of the ones recalled for valve seal problems... before the repair, it exhibited the exact same symptoms, but was much lower on the mileage scale...
