92 Previa stalls

I have a 92 previa. It stalls although very rarely. When it happens I have to wait for a few minutes and then it would be fine. It happens about once a month. The fuel filter has been replaced. Any suggestions?

Does it stall when in motion or at idle? How does it idle normally.

92 previa stalls

omplete I have noticed only when put in drive from a park position. When this happens, if I continue to push gas it feel like it would die but it does not. If I put in park again , wait a couple of minutes and put in drive it runs fine. It idles fine.

I am not sure if there is a relationship to something else. While driving, it use to downshift for a split second with yellow engine warning light and then back to normal. I had someone check the code but there was none. It use to do this two to three times a day. Lately I have not noticed it, since I changed the fuel filter.

I was about the suggest the fuel filter. but it seems you did that already. There was another thread about this, an older thread. and the suggestion was to check the fuel pump after the fuel filter.

Although your problem is strange. My car stalls at idle. like when I stop at a light. so I have to put it in neutral and keep the rpms up.

Question: when you change out the fuel filter are there any fluids that will leak out? I dont have to drain anything do I? I read the haynes manual and their instructions seem so simple that I worry that I may have missed something.

My suggestion is to let the van sit overnite and don't put the key in the ignition. If you did the fuel pump will come on and you will have a lot of fuel in the line that would have to be drained out. Make sure to follow the haynes manual instructions. It was not difficult to replace it.

I have two of these vans. I had replaced one while it had sat overnight. There was some fuel in the line but not much. When I was changing the second one I had to move the van to a safe location for replacing the fuel filter. Since I had moved the van it took a very long timefor the fuel to drain out from the lines. It took more than 30 minutes to drain it.

Good luck..

Make sure you remove the gas cap to release the pressure,
