Transmission/SADS

Ok, so I missed work the other day because of my main vehicle, so I was using my 93 previa le to drive around town to get parts. In route back to my house, I gave it a little gas and lost all forward movement and had no gears. As I coasted to the side of the road, the previa eventually died. I had been hearing the typical clunking sound that I thought was the SADS, but never thought my tranny was going bad. My question is this: has anyone else had this happen to them, and is it possible that it might be something else? It's not a main vehicle, so I don't need it fixed right away and can take time to work on it myself.

It's a 93, with 176,000 on the body and about 40k on the engine. I really like this van, but dont know if I'm over my head this time fixing it. Any info would be greatly appreciated and welcomed

Died

Have you heard it run since the incident? Maybe it was the timing belt. I don't know if this is a zero tolerance engine or not. If not, just have the belt replaced. If so, well not a pretty picture. I'm an amature, ask a professional.

previa uses a timing chain, so it may be something else...

I havent found anything obvious, but she hasnt started since and i've been a little busy (i say this with my 8 day old daughter FINALLY going to sleep in my arms) I'm to the point were I have gotten quotes for those "cash for junk cars" people. I hate to do it, but i havent the time and the wifey wants a working minivan with a growing family now. I know it's still a good ride, but i dont have the skill fix it. I hate to junk it like this when i know that it can at least provide someone else with some drive time....at the very least, for spare parts. So if you know anyone in the market, let me know

So,instead of fixing a few hundred buck problem, you would rather junk it,go in debt for another ride that might cost you thousands? and if the new ride is used, and it breaks, what do you do? fix it or junk it?
Doesn't seem like a good plan you have going there hoss

@Drazz You sound like my dad!! It boils down to, I like to fix this on my own, but I live with no garage, no one else in the family is willing to give up their garage for an indefinite amount of time, and I still have no idea on what to look for. I can't find an obdII plug anywhere, and Toyota's are foreign to me (excuse the pun). I wanted to let y'all know, cuz obviously you know what to do and appreciate the vehicle. And my wife hates it!! If the time and resources were there, trust me, I'd keep it for me.
