Advice on a 91 Previa

I'm in the market for a 91 Previa with 271,000.

Any ppl with a high mileage Previa out there w/ advice.

Also I'm wanting to replace the seats and the carpet since their both stained and old. Any tips on prices for something like that and where you could get that done at?

It was the first year for the Previa and most of the reviewers canned it pretty badly. I, like a fool, gave in to the wife's nagging and bought one new. Didn't have any problems with it, but the dogs and kids both got sick when we went for anything but a short trip in town. We traded it in on Camry wagon within the first year.
The worst thing is the inability to do a lot of the work yourself, due to power train layout.

The first year of any type of vehicle is usally the worst. I have a 92' Previa AllTrac that I have had for 4 or 5 years now. No major problems. We have replaced the brakes all around and the struts and shocks. It needs a new C/V joint up front right now. But if you change the oil regularly (I use synthetic) and do regular matinence you shouldn't really have any problems.

As far as doing work on the van yourself. It really isn't as bad as some people have made it out to be.

We have had 2 in our family 1st went to 369km and the second one is at 250km. Never had any problems. We drive to Florida every year. Thats a 24 hour drive. I would take a Previa over any van. Dont worry about working on them because nothing goes wrong. Still on original alternator and star6ter

My friend has a 1995 Previa All-Trac S/C with almost 200k miles on it. Engine and tranny still original and running strong.

I have a 92LE with 194K miles on it. Bought it used in 1994 with about 60K miles. My biggest gripes are the brakes and A/C. Other than that it's outlasted several co-workers Chrysler mini-vans. And one of them has been through 2 Chryslers while my Previa keeps chugging along.

That said, to buy one with 271K miles would require it be in pretty good condition and have good SADS shaft revolvers, working A/C (if it has A/C), and good brakes. I'd also look for oil leaks (traditionally, Toyota's don't leak) as the Previa tends to develop leaks from the valve cover gasket and the distributor shaft around 150K miles. Also, make sure the oil reservoir and sensor are either functioning or have been properly disabled. The float in the oil pan tends to hang up, sending a LOW OIL signal to the reservoir. The reservoir pump transfers oil to the pan resulting in overfilling.
