"reduced engine vibration-> (engine mounts); tilted engine x-degree's"
like xpeed....i can easily tell when a previa is coming around ....
i have a 95 s/c previa... i had the toyota universal header pipe replaced... this piece consisted of the 2 to 1 head piece, a flexpipe, a catalytic converter and the O2 sensor opening....this fixed my whistling.... this happens to fix most people's problem w/ whistling and cat. conv. rattling sounds...
after a year, i heard the whistling again. i then had the two catalytic converters replaced w/ high flows and it worked w/o whistling for about 3 months.....now i'm back w/ the whistling sound
mechanics say the problem is with the engine mounts..... a lot of engine vibration comes out from this mid mounted-tilted engine that it tends to loosen at the engine mounts and indirectly causes a exhaust system leakage from the joints connecting the exhaust system to the engine......most of us hear that whistling sound during accelleration .... the harder you accelerate w/ your previa, the torquing action of the engine increases, and thus the joints split and out comes that whistling sound....on idle/low rpms...the whistling is absent....
just after some recent research, others had the problem at the 02 sensor area...
others believe it is because of the supercharger...... i've seen numerous previa's (90-94's) that also have the whistling sound and those models don't have a supercharger.
the 97's got away from this problem through it's last revision....
i got some people who change there mufflers, some who changed the 1st catalytic converter (btw...the s/c models came w/ 2 cat. conv. to meet emmission standards)...and some who just tighten the bolts on the exhaust pipes......
is there anyone who has a definate fix to this whistling sound rather than having the mounts replaced/tighted?
any help and additional info/correction is appreciated
