95 Previa .... Boomin

My family bought a 95 toyota previa back in 96 and have had it to this day.

Its a Supercharged 4cyl. and has over 150,000 and is going strong.

These vans are great vehicles. We have had relatively little problems with it and the problems we have had have been such as break problems, AC valve, and the usual age-related problems.

Before my brother took this van off to florida for school, we gave the Previa a audio-makeover. The factory radio is replaced by a double-din JVC head unit.

We replaced the front 4" speakers with 6.25" Infinity Reference components and in the rear we replaced the 4" with 6.25 3-way speakers. All are amped by a 5ch Alpine amp. Custom encl. bandpass dual 10" JBL W0.

All in all he loves the Van and even gave it the knickname "Victoria"

Any other Modded/Custom Previas?

My friend has a 95 Previa S/C AWD and has over 200k on the clock. Still drives great and he recently swapped the whole audio and put in a High End Alpine system with MB Quarts sound all around. His previa is rockin'. If he plans to sell it, I will def but it despite the mileage

tricking out previa's/estima's are more popular in japan than it is here in the states...

damn...even also hard to find custom previa parts in southern cali where there's a grip of azian shops...

We've got a '93 all stock but now changing a few things. I need to get a look at the amp since there is no sound and both radio and changer work - wicked electrical smoke smell after it all went mute.

thanks

Your subject line read "Where is the OEM AMP?"

The OEM amp is directly under the front right storage/glove box, accessible from underneath, where you could kick it with your feet if you were sitting in the right front passenger seat.

My OEM amp fried a few months ago with a wicked smell as you described. It is expensive to replace, so I didn't. I removed the amp and bypassed it by plugging the radio connector into the speaker connector, both of which I had simply unplugged from the back of the amp. The sound is good with my aftermarket radio/CD/MP3 player that has a built-in amp.

How did you fit the 6.25 speakers into the stock holes? Did you cut new ones or something different?

where did you put the after-market amp? I cant find a good place up front since it won't fit under the seats...I'm thinking I may have to build a console over the airbag sensor to fit an amp up front...also, did you put 5 1/4's or 6 1/2s? I don't know of any 61/4's...if you put 6 1/2's, I'm curious to know if you used some kind of spacer...and were they in the door or in the dash for the front speakers?

Linky no worky.

Got any other access to the site?

I'd like a source for the aftermarket kits. It'd be fun to mod up the Previa sometime.

Nice setup. I like to run Infinity speakers in my different vehicles, also.

Update on Stereo

So I managed to fit 2 amps under the middle seat, 5.25" Infinity Reference Separates in the door, 5.25" MB Quart Coaxials in the rear, and I ran some new wires to the dash holes to run 5.25 Infinity Coaxials up in the middle of the dash. I'm running a Clarion head unit and dvd player out of my 4runner (rear ended and a total loss), a SAVV rearview mirror screen, and a NASE flip down monitor for the rear passengers...

Here's some tips that you may find helpful:

1. I drilled new holes in the door panel for the tweeters and the only place they would fit are next to the mid in the stock location. I put the new tweeter a little up and to the front of the mid. Speaking of the mid, I ran into quite a bit of trouble. I ended up using some metal strapping from home depot because the stock mounting bracket would not budge off of the stock speaker and I managed to strip the screw so bad that I would have had to drill it out. So, I mounted 3 strips of the metal strapping to the speaker using the stock mounting screws and the screws that came with the separates. The magnet and air tube for the heater held the speaker in place just fine once the three metal straps were screwed down. As for the crossover, I had to stuff it in the upper half of the door panel just under the lock and handle and "oh sh*t" bar. It doesn't rattle or anything and so far the wires haven't pulled out...

2. Because I didn't have stock speakers in the middle of the dash, I ran some speaker wire down to the back of the deck and tapped into the rear channels back there. It messes with the fade a little since the front speakers are hooked up with the rear speakers, but since the stock tweeters were hooked up to the front channel, the resistance would be all off if I hooked in those speakers to the front channel too. There was one little catch...I guess there's a diagnostic plug in a bracket up there if you don't have stock speakers in the hole. I simply unscrewed everything and relocated the plug so it comes out of the middle hole right above the relays, if you open it up, you'll see where I'm talking about, there's only one hole big enough to get it out, right in the middle, below the holes and above the relays.

3. For the rear speakers, I was fortunate enough to have a buddy in the stereo install business so while he was installing my alarm, he pulled the rear panels out and mounted the speakers. He used the stock brackets and some black plastic glue stuff that held the speakers in place.

4. With respect to the head unit and dvd player, I used the stock mounting brackets and they lined up on the holes with my deck and dvd player...they should work on almost any din unit with the stock pocket. Be aware that if you run two amps 2 screens, and a dvd player, you will have to do a lot of creative placing of the wires, as it is pretty tight back there if you have tons of wires.

I don't know how many people out there are actually going to read this post, but since I rarely post anything anywhere, I thought I'd share my experience...I don't get on the forums much, but I can be reached by email at NateKaneshiro@gmail.com as well if you have any questions about my install
