93 previa interior lights don't work

Hi,

our 93 previa's HVAC lights (all the heat/vent lights that should come on with the parking lights) quit working. Actually, it was intermittent for a while--could be coaxed back to life by running the vent selector through its range (!?). Now its dead completely. Fuse is good.

How do I get in there to inspect? What am I even looking for?

The second problem is the dome light in the rear, by the sliding door. That baby is dead too--bulb and fuse look OK there as well.

Any help is appreciated.

Pull out the fuse, clean it with a wire brush, then reinstall it. Or, put a new fuse. Sometimes, these fuses get tarnished on the connection points and won't conduct too good.

For the sliding door light:

(1) Make sure the contacts are clean where the door contacts the forward part of the door opening. Use a pencil eraser to rub the contact surfaces.
(2) There's a "pin" switch covered by a black rubber boot located at the rear of the door opening. This has either (a) failed or (b) is not making good ground:
(a) You can take a ohmmeter and see if the switch has failed by placing one probe where the wire is attached (you need to remove the switch to access this stuff) and the other probe to a good ground point. Move the pin switch in/out and see if the continuity changes.
(b)Ground is through the mounting bolt so you may have to remove, clean, and reinstall.
