Previa Help

I'm working on a 94 Previa 2wd. I need to take off head because head gasket blew. Can the head be taken off withough while motor coming out? I'm new to the Previa. Where can I find info on doing the timing? Is it possible to do the timing chain and stuff while the motor is still in the car? And last, where can I find a list of the engine codes(what they stand for). Anyone know the codes or a page that shows them? I don't have a manual that's why I'm asking. I know they are probably in a manual or something. Help!!!

its easy to pull thishead off 1st get a manual, and remember always tie the camshaft sprocket to the timing chain, i use two wire ties and then the chain cannot move without turning the sprocket. be very careful!alot of this may not be clear at first, but this will save you time in the end! to replace the chain this job will become more difficult so if you dont have to then dont remove it!

Does the 92 Previa have a timing belt or chain? And when should it be replaced?

The Previa's all came equipped with chains...a good idea because of the mount position of the engine.

Some people will recommend changing the timing chain at a certain mileage, but unless you start having problems with the engine, you will probably never have to change it. My Dad has close to 200,000 miles on his 93 Previa with the origional chain.

Telltale signs of worn out timing chains are: Rough idle.
Sluggish performance and poor economy.
Sudden engine performance change including the inability to start the engine.
Intermittent backfire through the intake manifold.
Inconsistent ignition timing or a clattering noise coming from the front of the engine.
