R & R Body ECU

I'm not a super handyman- is replacing and R&R Body ECU a major task, or something that most people could correctly handle? My alarm goes off almost every time I get into my car- makes everyone think the thing is trash, when it wouldn't be too bad if the horn just didn't always honk. The previous owner replaced the remote/ keyless entry trying to correct it, I did the same thing and then a Toyota keyless entry. Local dealer doesn't recognize the problem and wants $500+ to fix. I've already got over $1200 in the issue and would like to find an economical fix- or give up and sell the vehicle.
