Looking at a 2008 Plat with 141,xxx kms what should I look for?

Hello all?.

I've been nearly losing my mind searching for a Sequoia.

Last saleman/manager I spoke to refused to budge on $1775, which I argued is a fair price to cover the cost of new tires. (shoulders were bald, centers were fine)

I found this one: http://www.southgatevw.ca/PreOwned/P...6-a074002b9abb

I've seen it, took it for a little drive (couldn't do much as they had the rear hatch apart to replace the rear window actuator) paint is very good, interior is very good.

Stats: one owner, used it for towing stuff as the tow package is installed, tires were replaced, oil change.

I haven't had a chance to check the status of the timing belt (if that's even possible from the outside) waiting on the mechanical history

What should I be wary of/what else to look for?

Thanks for looking and many thanks for any advice given

The 2008 Platinum almost surely has the 5.7 V8, so no timing belt to worry about.

I only have a little more than 40,000 miles on my '08, so I don't have a lot of experience to draw on. One of my foldings mirrors quit working under warranty. The other got gimpy after the warranty ran out, so I avoid folding them in if I can avoid it.

Mine had something emissions-related and expensive fail in the exhaust system, but that was covered under warranty and not something common to the Sequoia I think.

I'm disappointed that the standard wheels are already showing some corrosion in under 4 years despite being garage-kept. The Platinum likely has the wheel upgrade, which is sharp but makes tires really spendy.

Tell the salesman you'll agree to his price if he puts new tires of your choosing on it. They like to hear that you'll give them their price even if it means someone is going to take it in the shorts in the parts department. Just make sure the tires you want are spelled out in the sales agreement or you'll be the one taking it in the shorts.

Thanks for the reply John, unfortunately, the salesman I have been talking to got too pushy and really made me upset.

The search continues, but you've given me alot of good info to carry into my next candidate.

I am thinking of buying a used Sequoia so I have been reading all the older threads here.

What caught my attention was about the timing belt on the 5.7. Are you saying that all the 5.7 engines have chains?
I was thinking only 2010 and newer had the chains but maybe that is the 4.6 engine?

The 5.7 has and has always had a timing chain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_UR_engine
