Flat towing a Sequoia 4X4 automatic

I am in the process of purchasing a motorhome behind which I want to tow my 2002 Sequoia. It has an automatic, electronic four wheel drive activation switch but also has a floor mounted lever with which you can select 4H, 4L, and neutral. May I simply place this lever in N, the transmission lever in N and tow it?

Yup, just make sure they're both in Neutral and haul away.

You can't flat tow that vehicle. The only toyota vehicles that are flat towable is manual shifting vehicles. The autmatics cannot.

If you have to have an automatic that is towable, sadly you are going to want to look at the Saturn's.

You need to disconnect the fr and rr shafts for flat towing.

Yes, it's a manual transfer case

The manual lever on the floor lets you select between 4H, 4L, and Neutral - disconnecting both front and rear drive shafts. The transmission is automatic with the 4wd activation being a switch on the dash.

This is the same setup I had with an F150 pick up which could be towed flat just fine (and which is listed in MotorHome magazine's Dinghy Towing Guide).

I'm gettiing mixed answers to my question with some strong yeses and some strong nos here. Of course, the manual says no.

The only way to do it somewhat safely without harming the transmission is by using a drive shaft disconnect. Or by using a transmission lube pump. You can buy them at camping world.

Sucessful towed 4 down without modification

I successfully towed my 2002 Toyota Sequoia for down without modification to the drive shaft. We traveled for Missouri Cape Cod and back this last summer. The car performed beautifully. I used a battery disconnect. Left car transmission in neutral or Park. I shifted the manual transmission lever to neutral. I always confirmed that the drive shaft was not turning after hookup. It never was but just the filled money needs to geese my own paranoia.

Hope this helps anyone else whose wanting to tow a Toyota Sequoia or tundra.
