Australia Oh Dear what now

Hello I am a new member. I need to drive my Series 80 landcruiser along dirt roads tomorrow however I have just noticed a small square red/orange light has come on next to the fuel guage. I had noticed that fuel consumption has been poor and am using the sub tank. Could you tell me what the lamp indicates please as I have to make a decision about taking the car off road. many thanks for any feed back. Julieanne

Is there any sort of icon or image on the light? When does it occur? We need more information.

Hi, no there is no icon. Just a small square.rectangular light no bigger than a match head. Came on as fuel indicator reached empty. Its not the fuel icon thats quite distinguishable. This is a little lamp on the opposite to the fuel empy icon. I havent noticed it before.

Not sure what that is then. Do you have an owner's manual handy? If worst comes to worst you can always go to your local Toyota dealer and ask them what the light means.

Thank you for trying. Yes I do intend to go to the Toyota dealer but live in a remote location that requires 220klms of dirt road travel first though. Guess I shall have to take plenty of water just in case it is something serious. I was wondering if it could be a fuel filter warning light . Regards Julieanne

Clogged air filter maybe? If you travel a lot of dirt roads I would check to make sure it isn't too clogged up.

Orange light right next to the fuel gauge and your tank is running dry? That'd be your low fuel warning lamp. At least that's what it is in my '96 FZJ80. Poor fuel consumption could be a number of things, but top up the tank and the light should turn off.

Australia

Thank you both for your responses. The warning lamp is indeed an indicator that I have only 10 litres fuel left (according to mechanic). It is distinct from the low fuel icon. The poor fuel litre/kilometer is likely attributed to dusty airfilter given the type of off road miles that I have been doing. God news is probably okay to do one more trip, then in for a service. Setting off shortly, with plenty of water just in case.
many thanks for your help.
