89 Landcruiser fj60

I just obtained an 89 Landcruiser FJ60. I need to put a new engine in it and have been adviced to go with a V8 with auto tranny. What do you think? Is that the way to go? How much will that set me back and is there anyone in the Portland Oregon area that does the work? thanks

It's a very common conversion to put in a GM V8. Depends on how much a purist you are. I like the bombproofness of the 2F/3F engine. Be different and drop in a Toyota v8!

a lot of people like putting Vortec V8's in .... it will be nothing like the OEM feel, but its a popular swap

check out the forums at www.ih8mud.com, they are a huge LandCruiser community with many people that have experience with these sort of swaps

if it were me, i would put a Vortech V8 just because the 3FE that yours came with is way too weak for me

your only other OEM option would be the 2F from the FJ60 (yours is actually an FJ62), which is basically a 3FE with a carb

Actually the 3FE is a fuel injected 3F. The 3F has a carb.

There is a Land Cruiser shop in Portland that in my opinion does the best work.

Go see W at Over The Hill 4x4. www.overthehil4x4.com.

It's not cheap to to a V8 conversion. Probably going to cost you about $6000 - $9000. Of course it's not cheap to rebuild a 3FE either.

Although a 3FE will go 300,000+ miles if you take good care of it. NO GM product would do that!

x10 on what Venom_5 said. Check out the Mud board.
