USA '02 Original DVD/CD changer malfunction

Ok, so the little door attached to the DVD/CD changer will not shut, allowing the unit to operate. I am looking at the possibility of pulling the changer out of the center console, in order to better see if I can fix this problem or if I will need to find a new one. (One thing to note, I have NO idea as to HOW to get the changer out of the console, without the possibility of breaking another expensive item.) The other option would be to eliminate the original changer and install and new after-market unit, but I do not have a wiring diagram, allowing me to see how I would integrate a different unit with the rest of the audio / Nav touchscreen.

If any of you could give me guidance as to the best alternatives, either by keeping the existing unit (which works perfectly, electronically) or just scrapping it and going to a new one, either a direct replacement or after-market, I would be very appreciative. Thanks much in advance.

OK, so yesterday I got a chance to REALLY look into this problem with the changer door not shutting. This is after the local dealer techs had looked at it, and said it was going to cost over $2700 to fix. Using my trusty Surefire flashlight and two fingers, I found that the hinge had popped out on the side that just sits in a small hole, causing he door to sag and therefore NOT properly align with the rest of the changer. Noticing this, I used my calibrated two fingers to pop it back in. Works like new and it didn't even cost me the afore mentioned $2700. How about that! Well, I guess it shows that I need to look at every possibility before saying something is truly broken.
