Here's some things to think about and also a couple of links to check out.
The FJ60 has a 4.2L carburated in-line 6 (3F), 4 speed manual tranny, crank windows, manual door locks. They are well known, if properly taken care of, to go 300K+.
The FJ62 has a 4.0 L EFI in-line 6 (3FE), auto tranny, and power everything. They too will go 300K+ if properly maintained. Mine has 288K on it and still going strong. THey were produced from 1988 to mid 1990. Body style is the same as the FJ60, but they have rectangle headlights where the FJ60 has round eyes.
There are tons of mods for the FJ60 and 62.
The FJ80 has the next body style. It has the same engine as the FJ62 (3FE), also with an auto tranny, but you can get them with a few different options like locking center diff, 3rd row seating and cruise control. The FJ80 was produced from mid 1990 thru 1992.
The FZJ80 has basically the same body style as the FJ80, but has a 4.5L EFI in-line 6. It has considerably more horsepower than the FJ62 and FJ80. It was produced from 1992 thru 1997. Lots of the FZJ80's came with factory lockers front and rear. A real plus if you are going to wheel it. Then again, it's a Land Cruiser. It was MEANT to be wheeled!
All of the above models have a straight front axle.
Here are a couple of links to check out that should answer any possible questions you might have about Cruisers.

I 2nd what L8Shift says about getting a "Southern" Cruiser or at least one from an area where they don't salt the roads.
Before you buy one, crawl ALL over and UNDER the vehicle. Check for rust on the frame etc. If the seller has service records that's a plus.
As a final note, Don't jump on the first one you see unless it is in excellent shape. There are lots of them out there. Take you time, research them well.
Good luck. Post up the outcome of your search.
And remember Cruisers Rule!
