Question from a New Owner of 91' LC

Hello, first post here..
Just picked up a 91' LC today and noticed on the way home when driving along I can press on the gas to accelerate and it makes a sort of "clunk" sound that sounds like it's coming thru the floorboard..

Any ideas what could cause this? The truck has 194k miles on it - original motor and tranny... My first thought was U-Joints?

Could be, as you mentioned, the U joints, could be the transfer case or the output shaft on the tranny.

My 89 made a substantial clunk when I'd let off the gas. The output shaft on the tranny and the input gear on the transfer case were worn.

The Cruiser "clunk" is somewhat normal on high mileage rigs, two common causes; Dry drive shaft splines and the early trucks have shorter birf splines, that wear on the birf and drive plate sides. Much info on these issues on Mud.

Any chance it could be engine mounts? You could try "power braking" the vehicle while a friend stands to the side of the engine compartment(unless you don't like them, then running them over would be a total "accident") and see if the drivers side of the engine rises more than 1/2". And you would be able to duplicate the noise... Just a thought...
