1997 Lancruiser starting issue

I pulled an idiot move…I purchased a new batter for my 97 cuiser. I didn’t pay much attention that the positive/negative poles were opposite from my old one..smoke/sparks later, I can’t start it. Got new battery and car turns, but doesn’t ignite. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?
