91-92 Land Cruisers... problem spots?

Hello. I know these are mostly bulletproof, but I found a 1991 Land Cruiser thats local that I am thinking of looking at. Its in VGC and $4900. I have a 1991 Lexus LS400 that I love and gets 22mpg, but I really wanted a LC.... still not sure if I should do it or not.

Can anyone tell me what "trouble spots" I should look for on a 1991?

Thanks anyway.

I went and looked at it today and it was from the north and had some rust spots, which I found displeasing. There was a spot starting in the rear wheel well, which was really a bummer.

I found another LC, but he said it was using a quart of oil every 3000 miles. I wonder whats wrong and how much this would cost to repair?

I have a 91, i would go for a 93 to 97 if I get another one. The 91 is a slug being under powered and under breaking capability. It is a strong vehicle though.

Thanks for that info. I am thinking of trading my 1991 Lexus LS400 for one if I can find someone willing to trade.

I have heard before that the 93-newer are better because of more powerful engines and better brakes. For some reason I like the instrument cluster better on the 1991-92s, because the 93+'s speedometer seems to be "off-center". I like the 60mph mark to be up top instead of 70mph. Sounds crazy I know, but it bugs me. lol. My Lexus has 80mph at the top. I know it will be a big change going from a 250hp Lexus LS400 that moves pretty swift to a low powered 91-92 Land Cruiser. I have never even driven one. Perhaps I should find a local one and make sure I like they way the drive before I bite the bullet and trade. Thanks again!

I own a 1992 and it is a tad under powered, but cruises the freeway at 80 mph no prob. It just dosent do well light to light. Large and in charge is what it is. Quite, comfy but still a big truck. Totally different planet than your car. Keep the car and snag a LC. It is easy to find a nice one and they are cheap because they get only 11 mpg or so, so lots of owners are sick of filling them up. Good Luck.

A quart of oil every 3000 miles for a LC with a 3F engine, don't worry a bit, usually you loss oil from the junction between engine to gear box, that happen all the time. If your LC is a automatic transmission then it is slow the standard is more alive, you will learn to enjoy it
