How Big/wide, and wheres a good place for tires?

I want to use this 88 LC for rock crawling and mudding. The axle had been moved above the leaf spring and the guy i got it from said it could fit as big as 40s if i trim the base of the fender. Dont know if i want to go that big maybe 35s or something? I guess anything wider that 12.50 wont fit on a regular rim?? I was hoping to find a good set up used but i havent had any luck. Wheres a good spot to look if im trying to keep it under 1500 for rims and tires. Is that a reasonable price range for what i want??

I've got 35's on my FJ62 and I went to a 16" rim instead of the stock 15".

I have no tire clearance issues with the 35's and I didn't do any "body work".

35's are fine for what I do, but the one thing you will really notice is the loss in power.

Mine now does 0 to 60 in the same day!!!!

If you go bigger than a 35, you will really need to change the front and rear ring and pinion to something much lower than the stock 4.11 (unless it's already been done). I'm thinking of going to at least a 4.88 and maybe even 5.23's.

Check out the Mud board I gave you in the other your other post. There is a wealth of info there.
