A/C-Heater Fan Speed-1992 Land Cruiser

Hi,
The fan for my 1992 Land Cruiser Air Conditioner/Heater has been missing the highest speed for several years. Recently it lost the second highest speed.

Does anybody know why this is? Just old age? A short some place? Is it a fuse or the switch itself? I am guessing it is the switch or a rheostat attached to the switch.

I assume the rheostat is attached to the back of the visible switch. If I am wrong, please correct me.

Thanks,
George

does it have a blower resistor?
i know with camrys it was fairly common for something like this to happen, but they would lose the lower speeds first.

It's a common problem on the pickup trucks and 4Runners as well.
They have a module which contains resistors for each of the lower speeds, and when a resistor goes bad you loose a fan speed.
They are typically located in the ductwork on the pass side. Look for a connector with 3-4 wires going into a duct. Usually 2 screws hold it in.

the same resistor have been used in several models of Toyota. Asks the dealer to give you all the models with the same part number as your LC's resistor.

I would be willing to bet that the pick-up and 4Runner have the same resistance.

You could therefore find in a scrap yard near you or a jobber resistor at a reduced price

The module is actually not that much from the dealer, and dealers like partznet.com sell online and better prices.

Usually one one of the resistors opens, it's for good, not intermittent.
But it is possible.

Canada

Is it possible that the switch (in the dashboard) for the speeds went. Do they go very often? Its cold here in the Alberta

I also don't know that i am looking at the right thing. On the duct work there is a circuit board attached. That isn't the resistor is it?

It could be the switch, but the resistor module is usually the problem.

Here's a typical one removed.
