Help - Diagnosis - Tranny Issue?

I have an '01 Landcruiser. 150k miles. The engine is revving higher before shifting and the shifting is delayed. Sure seems like a tranny issue. Service tech told me he rarely ever sees tranny issues on the LC's. Cost to replace is over 3k. Could these symptoms be caused by something other than the tranny?

We don't tow w/ the vehicle either??

Thanks
