I have an 88 FJ-62 with the 4.0 3F-E Six and it tows just fine,
brakes are more than up to the task - but if you hitch up a full rated
load you can clock the acceleration times up a hill with a calendar.
Old VW Camper Vans will pass you. :-0

As long as you aren't in a rush to get there, it'll tow a house.
Without wheels, just throw a chain around and drag it away... ;-P

I had an 80 series like yours and presently own a 100 series but both
were/are diesel engined. They have no trouble towing 4 tons or more. 3.5
tons on a dry road over a mountain pass should be no problem with good
trailer brakes.
How your petrol engine pulls, I have no experience but do know that you will
lose power at altitude but that this is not a problem for turbocharged
diesels such as mine.

Towing with a Land Cruiser?

My new-to-me '95 LC with the 4.5L I6 engine has the tow package, which most
of them seem to have, but you NEVER see anyone towing with these things.
Anyone towed a boat or trailer and have anything to report on the subject?
After owning it a couple weeks, it seems like it has great brakes but I'd
hate to have to tow a heavy trailer over a mountain pass...
