Tires on the FJ

I have ordered my FJ in Black Cherry Pearl and cannot wait for it to be delivered. In the meantime I've been trying to find out more about the tires that come on it (at least in Canada), I think they're Dunlop Grandtrek AT20's. Can anyone confirm this? I've read online that they are not very good tires and I would like to know if anyone has any alternate suggestions. Thougths, suggestions?

I have put Yokohama Geolander ATS on my FJ. They are available in the same size as stock. Much better handling and road feel than the Dunflops, plus they work quite well in lite offroad conditions. The sidewall is squared off complared to the Dunlops which improves cornering and makes them look larger.

Enjoy your FJ!

I think I've finally decided on BF Goodrich TAKO's for the FJ.

I put BF Goodrich ATs on all my trucks asap. Definitely want them on my FJ unless something that works as good and maybe looks even cooler comes along. I like the ride of course on them and they arent as loud as mudders. Ive been through all types of terrain and mud and snow and they wear great. Never had a prob with them, thumbs up for all around functionality. Never got stuck.

Can you put BF Goodrich on the 17" rims on the FJ ? I know you can on the 16" (its actually an option for the FJ in US (I am in Canada)). I know a guy that has installed the the BF Goodrich on the 17" but the tires scrape when he turns the steering wheel all the way.

Perhaps somebody knows a type of BF Goodrich that will fit on the 17" rimms ?

BFG AT's. Just get the same tire size as stock, 265/70 17. You buddy probably bought a taller/wider tire like a 285/70 17.

The couple of places I've checked for the BFG AT's haven't said there would be any problem putting on the same size tire as stock.

Bfg

i have used both BFG all terrain and BFG mud terrain tires on my dodge 4x4 these are both excellent tires i use the all terrains in winter and mud terrains in summer but the mud terrains are a little noisy. i think i will put all terrains on my new FJ before winter unless you are going to do any serious playing offroad tha all terrains seem like a good all around choice. i put 80000 km on my last set of all terrains with 50% of the driving being gravel roads.

Canada Tire choices

Definitely match the factory tire size. As for brand I've had a soft spot for Dunfllops [lol] I ran Mud terrain in the winter & larger, 60 series Qualifiers in the summer [ I kinda drive fast], mind you I always went back to the mudders when I played. Read as much as you can about people's tire experiences, perferably if they do the kind of driving you plan on doing, 2 sets of rims & tires might not be an extravagance. You should be able to tell the dealer which tire brand/model you want delievered, tell him it's that or no deal.. you'll get what you want , provided you're not asking for a different size. In the end all tire makers have some good inventory & it'll be a personal choice. Don't forget that tires wear out so you can try something else the next time.

Hi, please let me know what you think of your color choice. That's where I'm leaning but I've yet to see one in the flesh, I saw an FJ last week but it looked alot more Plum red, than Cherry, not as bright as the brochure. Thx & happy driving.

I'm supposed to get the truck next week, so I'll let you know what I think of the color then.

Replaced Dunlops w/ BFG 285 AT's

As soon as I got my FJ, I called the local Discount Tire. They gave me $60US per tire and I got 5 BFG 285 70/17's for my stock alloys. They fit fine, no rubbing even at full lock w/ no lift. Though if I had several passengers, that might be different. I'm getting an OME lift anyways so no big deal.

The color is amazing! I've had so many compliments on it in the last two days. Depending on which way the sun is hitting the paint the color is different. Sometimes it looks almost brown, others times it's burgandy. Direct sunlight makes it look like a bright shiny mettalic cherry. I love it and am so glad I got that color.

I put 265 70R17 BFG all terrains on the truck and what a difference it made! The FJ looks really sharp with those tires and the ride feels alot smoother. I'm so glad I put them on right away.

Canada Tires

I have the Dunlop tires on my black cherry FJ. They are great for offroading. I ordered my FJ on 7/15 and it was delivered on 8/4. I really lucked out. Bought mine from Whitby Toyota.
