I'm not one to talk up just any old serivce, but I have a feeling this is really going to catch on. I had been shopping around between a few dealers, talking each down, going back and forth with copies of invoices, getting them to lowball each other. They were still only moving about 500. off the MSRP on the FJ. I hit many message boards, and came across someone raising the idea of using a car buying service. So, I start looking into THOSE.
Go there, you won't be sorry. They have a feature called "new car auction" where they post the car you wish to buy out to ten nearest dealers in your area. The dealers then bid down from the MSRP. The first few bids I got were for 3000. over dealer invoice, then 2900. 2750. and so on. Finally on the 5th day, one of the dealers outside the main line bid 1000. over dealer invoice. Best price I've seen so far anywhere.
My plan from here is to order my FJ Cruiser with nothing more than Upgrade package 1 and the roof rack (i've no interest in installing that, I couldn't bare drilling holes in my new roof). Next is to oder the rest of the accessories I wanted anyway from various venders on ebay with the money I saved on the auction. That stuff is where they really rake you over the coals anyway, and I've no problem installing the TRD exhaust, trailer hitch etc...
I can't wait!
Oh yeah, 20. bux to run the auction, 20 dollars to save 2000. Never again will I buy a car without first trying that. I'm amazed.
