A better answer is that Family of 4 issue depends on the size of the family. My elementary school age kids love riding in the FJC. It is no problem for us. Rearward visibility is poor - for sure. The parking assist is an option.
Your friend should test drive to see if this is will be problematic.

This leads me to my next question, what happens when your kids get older?
My point is sitting in the back is cramped, to say the least. And for a normal size adult, forget it! Of course, this is just my opinion.

Kevyn - Good point. Personally, my kids will have to deal with it. Builds character/ part of growing up/ etc. Realistically, the FJC is not the only vehicle I own. If it's a road trip, we'll take something more appropriate. If it's an off-road trip, we're back to square one.
The adults that ride in my FJC are excitied about the prospect - one of the thing Rav's friend wanted in an SUV. Granted, we generally don't take 3 hour road trips in it, but going out to dinner/ night on the town is great.
I'll say here the same thing I say to all people who think they're interested in the FJC: know what you're getting. Know the history of the model. Know what the vehicle was and was not built for. It's my opinion that folks that are generally unhappy with the FJC did not know what they were buying.

Likewise Steve, Very well stated.
"Know what you are getting" hit the nail right on the head.
my dad has an FJ and i'm 15 and my sister is 13 we're pretty tall and not fat. we fit back there pretty except when my mom rides because she likes her seat back for some reason. there's already lots of leg room up front. the suicide doors are abit hard to get in if the seat is back too. but all in all it's pretty comfortable to me. i can see a large person not being very comfortable in the back. we've had my 25 year old brother and his wife in the truck too and they didn't seem to complain.
