Broken Lug Nuts

OK, so I got a flat in my FJ (nail). I have changed the tire by myself and later took it to a large tire repair/sales chain in Canada for fixing. I asked them to tighten the nuts with a torque wrench. They broke off one of the nuts (it might have been cross threaded). They said they will fix it and did but during the tightening again they broke off another one. This one was not cross threaded and they said they used a proper torque setting on the wrench.

I took it to the Toyota dealer and they claim that it was an error on behalf of the technician in the tire repair shop.

I have a trust in that repair shop and did not think it would be that easy to break the lug nut.

Is it possible that I have weaken the nuts when replacing the tire. I actually stepped on the wrench to tighten the screws (the manual says just to use hands).

To me it just seems suspicious that a two lugs will break around the same time ...

Any ideas ?

You stepped on the wrench!! Ah yeah that might do it. The lugs only need to be tightened down to 85 ft lb, you probably way over tightened them which will damage them.
